The Fifty Lakes Property Owners Association (FLPOA) continues to pursue our mission of protecting our lakes and streams from aquatic invasive species (AIS). With member support, we conduct water Trophic State Index (TSI) sampling, water clarity testing, Zebra mussel veliger testing, and plant inspections at the public landings. The FLPOA also shared information about invasive species and collected lead tackle at The Fifty Lakes Day event in June.
- We held our annual meeting at the Fifty Lakes pavilion on Saturday, August 2nd and had the best attendance we have had in the past few years. At the meeting members enjoyed door prize drawings for a custom set of bean bag boards and bags built by Josh Fitcher, and 2 gift certificates ($25 Emily Meats, $25 Red Pine Cook House). The FLPOA also hosted a bags tournament, with winning teams receiving a set of custom boards with bags, and $25 gift certificates for the Fifty Lakes Bar and Log Cabin Bar.
- We plan on holding our annual meeting in August 2024 as well, watch our FB page or website for details next summer.
- On December 2rd we hosted the Fifty Lakes Santa event. Twenty kids were all smiles when meeting Santa and receiving a treat bag. The extra treat bags were donated to the Emily Food Shelf. A special thanks again this year to Reed’s Market for donating cookies and juice boxes and the City of Fifty Lakes staff for their support.
- The FLPOA assisted the City of Fifty Lakes again this year with the DNR delegation agreement program. We only had one inspector hired by the city this year even though FLPOA and the city advertised for a second inspector. The city is the local government unit required by the DNR for entering into a delegation agreement. Board members worked closely with the City setting up the inspector schedule, loading required software onto the iPads, submitting reports to the County and DNR, and providing funds to cover the inspector’s salary. The inspector worked over 500 hours (split between 4 public landings) and FLPOA provided funds of $5,614 to the City. The City also received $5,666 in State funds, designated by Crow Wing County for the E. Fox Lake public access. Of these funds $4,105 were used.
- Our property owner’s association currently has 234 paid-up members. We appreciate all our members for their vital support. A special thanks to those members who made extra financial contributions. Look for our membership drive letter in March. Members dollars make it possible for us to protect our lakes and participate in community events.
- Early detection of AIS is key to minimizing and controlling the impact of an infestation. We are happy to report that no AIS were detected in our lakes again this year.
- If you are interested in working as a level 1 AIS inspector next summer, please send an email to flpoamn@gmail.com. Hourly pay in 2023 was $19 per hour for an experienced level 1 inspector and will probably go to $20 in 2024.
If you know of someone new to Fifty Lakes, please encourage them to join FLPOA. Membership information is on our new website at 50lakespropertyowners.org
We now have a Private FB Group Page Fifty Lakes Property Owners Association
